The plate evaporator is mainly composed of the following components:
Corrugated plates: Usually made of stainless steel (304, 316L), titanium or nickel-based alloys, the surface corrugated design enhances turbulence and improves heat transfer efficiency.
Sealing gasket: Located between the plates, it prevents the leakage of the medium. Common materials include NBR (Nitrile rubber), EPDM (ethylene propylene Diene Monomer rubber), fluorine rubber, etc.
Compression frame: It includes fixed end plates, movable compression plates, upper/lower guide rods and compression bolts, which are used to fix the plates and maintain a seal.
Interfaces and pipes: Used for the inlet and outlet of feed, steam, condensate water and secondary steam.
Plate evaporators usually adopt falling film evaporation or rising film evaporation methods:
Falling film evaporation: The feed liquid enters from the top, forms a liquid film along the surface of the plate and flows downward, while being heated and evaporated simultaneously.
Rising film evaporation: The feed liquid enters from the bottom, boils upon heating, and forms a vapor-liquid mixture that flows upward, achieving evaporation and concentration.
Heating side: Steam (or hot water) flows on one side of the plate, releasing heat.
Evaporation side: The material liquid is heated and evaporated on the other side, and the secondary steam generated can enter the subsequent evaporation process or be condensed and recovered.
It is not suitable for materials with high viscosity (>500cp) or containing solid particles.
The sealing gasket may age after long-term use and needs to be replaced regularly.
